With dozens of reject letters behind me, in December 2011, I decided to publish my first book, The Devil's Wave, as an ebook with Amazon. Over the next month or so, I quickly learned that if I wanted to be a professional writer in a new and exciting world which is out there, then I would have to do a lot more than just finish the book, publish it, then sit back and watch the sales mount up.
Reality set in when I signed up for a blog and newsletter called The Creative Penn and I learned what I really needed to do to ensure success as an 'Indie' writer. So for the past few weeks I have been busy trying to put in place many of the points suggested by Joanna Penn. The main issue has been getting the mind-set right and maintaining the balance between writing and the many other things that need to be taken care of. You will notice that as well as an improved cover design for the Devil's Wave, courtesy of the extremely talented Brian Wagner, the format of the ebooks and printed versions from Lulu have changed. After many hours of formatting and throwing things at the Mac, I think I have it right. What I'm now attempting to do is slowly build a writers platform. And for that I'd like to ask that all my readers help by 'liking' the Facebook page and inviting any friends of yours who might be interested in my work. I'd also like to ask that everyone who downloaded and read the books could leave a few comments on the Amazon page for the book. We have some great reviews but could do with some more. Even if you are critical and didn't like the book, then please say so. To the future then - whats next? I'm actually working on two projects right now. I've just started a third book in the Scott Adler series. The working title is Twin Conspiracy. I don't want to give too much away, but what I can tell you is that involves Scott Adler, who is now the Director of the CIA and friend of his whose body has been found in the Oregon back country. The problem is, its the same friend who was supposed to have died in the World Trade Center on 9/11. The second project is a novella called Hometown. It's the first installment of the Warrior series that I am writing. I'm hoping to have it ready by the end of the year and will be available for 99 cents on Amazon or free to everyone that signs for my new emailing list.
